Mary's Book Basket - Great Graduation Gifts...

This weekend was wonderful. Saturday was clear and sunny and the Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation Ceremony was beautiful. I promise to have pictures and a special tribute in the next few days.

I wanted to post today on some great ideas for Graduation Gifts. I thought I would share a few ideas since it is that time of year, and I always struggle with just sending a check, making something personal or being practical. Jonathan received so many beautiful things, he was overwhelmed by all the attention and love.

He received this book, Getting The Best Out of College and I have to say, I LOVE it! I am almost done with it and it has some great advice in there for parents and students. There are a few things that I am hoping Jonathan will not have to deal with at a Catholic college, however, I chose to air on the side of caution and talk about them anyway. A wonderful look at what to expect when you are going away to school.

Another great gift was the book "The Apostles" by Pope Benedict XVI. All I can say is WOW! I am just starting this one and it's amazing. What a fabulous gift to give someone who is just beginning "the journey" following the path God has laid before him.

Why am I reading these and not Jonathan? Well he is reading "Let the Fire Fall" by Micheal Scanlon, T.O.R. Being that he is attending Franciscan University of Stuebenville in the fall, he thought this was the one to start with. I couldn't agree more. Fr. Mike, who became president of Stuebenville in 1974, helped restore the institution to the Catholic, Franciscan vision of its founders after going through the culture wars of the 60's and early 70's . I can't wait to read that one either.

Jonathan also received a tool box for the dorm room, towels, and a crocheted blanket in his college colors. I would love to hear your ideas as well. So leave a comment to share!

Blessings,
Mary
