It has been a family tradition for at least the last twenty years for our family and friends to gather the day after Thanksgiving and bake Speculatius, a traditional German spice cookie. These are always made in preparation of St. Nicholas Day on December 6. The recipe we use has been in my mothers family for FIVE generations!! Amazing! And no...this recipe will not be posted here for the sake of family unity. A girls got to have a few secrets in life ;)
We have always shared them with neighbors and friends as our Christmas gift to them. This year was no exception. We had the privilege of sharing the day with our dear friends Vic and Caroline and three of their four children. Their youngest, Lily, is Jerry's and my godchild. We had a wonderful time surrounded my music and lots of laughter. The house smelled like cinnamon and cloves and by lunch we had had our share of "tastings". We are blessed to be surrounded by such love at the holidays and all year through.
Courtney had to make hers. I was so proud of her standing for a whole two minutes!
Vic, Caroline, our goddaughter Lily and big brother Joseph share in the fun!
The Big Man was home and got into the act!
