Mary's Book Basket...Advent Study

Next Sunday will be the first Sunday of Advent. I am shocked that another year has gone by so quickly. I don't want another advent season to go by without me taking full advantage of the graces God has in store for me. So this afternoon, I was culling though my bookcase to see what I had readily available for my advent study. I think I have found a winner:

Advent and Christmas Wisdom by John Paul II:Daily Scripture and Prayers Together with Pope John Paul II's Own Words jumped out at me.

John Paul has been on my heart lately. The recent elections as well as the current state of the pro-life culture in our country, has me wishing for this great man to come forward once again and shout "Be not Afraid!".

I was in grade school when John Paul II became Pope. I remember sleeping on the grounds of the National Mall awaiting his first Mass in the US. I have become a better Catholic because of this dynamic, God-fearing man. I am a better wife and mother because I have chosen to embrace my cross with humility and humor. He taught me, along with my own father, how to do that. He taught us to go forth with the assurance that God was walking with us and would never leave us. I am forever grateful for that lesson learned. I pray that I have the faith to never forget it.

He taught us to respect life, from the moment of conception until natural death. He SHOWED us this himself, with his own life as a living example of how it is supposed to be. I wept when I watched this video. We need your prayers more than ever, Karol Wojtyla.
