It's the #1 movie in the country. The books are bestsellers, but is it really a good idea to have your kids reading them?
I started reading them when my youth ministry kids started showing up with them every week. I have now read all of them and I am personally unimpressed. I thought Harry Potter was much better. The Gothic romance is a bit overdone for me. It may not have "sex" but the sexual tension is stronger than many adult romance novels. It glamorizes the "dark side" of humanity and it was downright creepy at times. Would I have my teenage daughter read them. In a word, no. I knew that by book 2. I just don't think a vampire is redeemable unless they are "cured". Sorry, that's my opinion. There are so many other things to read that are so much better. Stephanie over at ...and These thy gifts, has put together a fabulous post which includes quite the compilation of reviews and opinion pieces. Thanks Stephanie for your hard work gathering all this information. You can read them and make your own decision...
