This was my first time reading Inspirational Historical Fiction author Kathleen Morgan and what a wild ride it was. Ms Morgan's novel A Heart Divided, is the first of her new Heart of the Rockies series and is chock full if intrigue, blood feuds, lots of small town drama and one intense romance.
Heroine Sarah Caldwell is a feisty and strong-willed young woman who will do anything to protect her family. She puts her own desires aside in order to care for her little brother Danny who is very sickly, even if that means dealing with the Wainwrights.
Cord Wainwright is a lawyer who has returned home to his family's ranch to help his father and brother. His older brother Noah is wheelchair bound because of an accident many years earlier caused by Sarah's father. There is no love lost between these two families.
Without giving away too much of the plot, there are many twists and turns throughout this book that keep the reader engaged and wondering who is really the villain. My favorite part of the story is the unconventional romance between Cord and Sarah. It is chock full of sexual tension and wonderful dialogue. Ms. Morgan has done a wonderful job of keeping the reader engaged and rooting for these two throughout the book. It's just written so well.
If there are any drawbacks it would be with some of the inspirational elements which were a bit preachy for me, as well as the constant introspection the characters go through. I would have liked to have seen more of that in dialogue. Still, neither of these things stopped me from enjoying a very well paced story.
Happy Reading,
