tasty tuesday ~ paula deen's salisbury steak...

the meat is moist and delicious...
Good Morning dear readers!! Tasty Tuesday makes it's return this morning with a real winner. This meal is economical, incredibly tasty and very quick to make. Paula Deen can always be counted on for scrumptious morsels and these lovely little patties do not disappoint.

You can serve this with potatoes or pasta depending on your families needs. This recipe is also easily doubled for the freezer to help make your weeknights less insane. You can also adjust the amount of mushrooms and onions to customize to your families taste.

Celebrate the Feast!

The beef patties swim in a lovely swirl of beef consommé and mushrooms that thicken into a fabulous gravy.

Outside My Window ~
..it is a beautiful Spring day! the ground is still wet from last night's thunderstorms and I think there are more on the way. I could choke on the pollen of course but then that's par for the course this time of year. Everything is blooming and the birds are chirping. We have a little bird nest in one of my hanging plants. The momma just sits and sings most mornings. I am so happy to watch the world come alive after a very long winter.

Towards Rhythm and Beauty in my Home this Week ~
Lots of activity swirling around the calendar this week. I am Hoping and Praying for ~
*for the NFP class Jerry and I are teaching. May God guide our words and open the hearts of our students to God's plan for their future families.

*in thanksgiving for so many lessons learned this past Lent. God has a plan. I just need to let Him lead in this dance called LIFE!

*for my husband and my son who are forging a new level of friendship/mentorship. Parenting twenty-somethings is a minefield at times and we could all use a little cover!

*for perseverance with my new weight loss regimen...for patience with myself and my learning curve.

*Miss Courtney's care plan and new meds. May God continue to guide her doctors.

* for a return to civility with the political discourse in this country. Words have power and people need to be personally responsible for the words and deeds. "Words which do not give the light of Christ increase the darkness." Mother Teresa

* for my cousin Anne and our friends son Mark, who are deployed to Afghanistan as well as our family friend Gerard a newly minted Marine and my cousin Eamon at Marine Boot Camp in San Diego. May God protect all those who serve this wonderful nation.

* for my sister-in-law Nancy who is expecting my new NEPHEW in September. That God may protect both Momma and little one.

*for Caleb and his Momma and Daddy. That they may feel hope once more in the midst of great sacrifice.

* for those who are searching for their purpose in this world. That God may grant them a passionate perseverance to discover His plan for them.

*for Suzanne at church who prays for my girl, just because

*for the six woman I have prayed with weekly for over 10 years now. That God may guide their daily paths as family needs and obligations prevent us from being physically present to one another at this time. May God shelter them and the ones they hold closest to their hearts.

"Pray, Hope and Don't Worry" ~ Padre Pio

In the Garden ~
Things are GROWING!! Here is a little snapshot of my "kitchen garden" right outside my front door. There are herbs, two cherry tomato plants and a few lettuce plants. I can't wait to harvest in a few weeks. This weekend the boys will put in the Square Foot gardens to the side of the house. Squee!! Can't wait to dig me some dirt!!
Basil, oregano, parsley, thyme, mint, chives...so much flavor growing just for me!!
Oh happy little thyme...sigh...there will be chicken in your future...
In the Kitchen ~
I have been on Weight Watchers for the past four weeks and have lost about seven pounds now. It's time to kick things into high gear! So I will be embracing some new ways of cooking over the next several months. A lots less sugar and carbs and more veggies. It's been an interesting learning curve, one that I am looking forward to sharing with you all. The kitchen is no longer a battlefield!

Courtney's World ~
Courtney has been enjoying life life these last few weeks. Her seizure activity is way down due to a new med regimen and she has been happy and smiling for her Momma quite a bit. We have had lots of family time recently where she has interacted with her cousins. We went bowling for my Mom's 70th birthday and they all "helped" her bowl using the little ramp they have for those in wheelchairs. It was so fabulous to witness them loving her.

A Picture Thought ~
Courtney bowling with Momma...check out the hot pink Converse...too funny....only kid I know who bowls with her legs crossed! LOL!

After eating some of Grandma's birthday cake...yummy!

how great HE is indeed!

mary's book basket ~ "tomorrow's garden" by amanda cabot

I have been a fan of author Amanda Cabot's for quite some time now so when I received her latest novel Tomorrow's Garden to review I could not wait to get started. One of the things I love about contemporary Christian fiction is the genre's fearlessness in taking on difficult topics. Ms. Cabot does this very well always peeling back the layers of the main characters inner struggles while keeping up the emotional tempo.

Harriet Kirk has always bee the responsible eldest daughter shouldering much of the burden of raising her three younger siblings. Her parents died in a tragic house fire the result of her fathers irresponsible drinking. Harriet carries this responsibility by giving everything she has for her siblings and denying her own needs.

Along comes an opportunity for the family to begin a new life in a new town, Ladreville, Texas where Harriet is offered a teaching position. Add one handsome former Texas Ranger Lawrence Wood, who is dealing with his own past, and we have ourselves a wonderful western romance. Ahhh...you gotta love the cowboy romance especially when the characters are able to overcome the obstacles placed before them seeking their happily ever after.

This is the third book in Cabot's Texas Dreams series, however it reads beautifully as a stand alone. If your looking for a great story that includes a ride through Texas in the 1850's, I think you will enjoy "Tomorrow's Garden" from author Amanda Cabot.

Happy Reading,
Mary

{pretty. happy. funny. real} #2

It's that time once more. Time to take a few snapshots of daily life to share with Rosie and Auntie Lelia over @ Like Mother, Like Daughter. It's the "Holy Week" edition. Not feeling particularly holy at the moment with Easter looming and I am nowhere near prepared for the biggest day in the church year. So much to do, so little time. Sigh...this is the story of my life. Anyway...here we go...

mary's book basket ~ "the deepest waters" by dan walsh

This is the first the first time I have read author Dan Walsh and I must say I really enjoyed it. This was a powerful a story of courage and tenacity. John and Laura Foster's will to survive, no matter what they must endure moves the reader from page to page, cheering them on not give up and trust that God has their back.

The fact that is it inspired by true events made the read even more intriguing to me. The depth of emotion the characters display moved me throughout. The grief, the questioning, the trust...nothing to overwhelming or soap opera like. All of it felt very real to me. Mr. Walsh has also done a marvelous job with his pacing throughout the novel. I read this book in two days. If it weren't for the fact I had to sleep, it would have been done in one! I just could not put it down. I had to know what happened.

If your looking for an uplifting, emotional read...look no further than The Deepest Waters by Dan Walsh. You won't be disappointed.

Happy Reading,
Mary
