This book was so much fun to read! I was drawn in from the first page and by the ned of chapter one I was fully vested in the main characters wondering how it was all going to work out.
Author Lorna Sielstad's The Ride of Her Life follows heroine young widow Lily Hart through the summer of 1906 in Lake Manawa, Iowa a posh resort town. She is broke and working to provide a home and a future for her son Levi. With a chance meeting with roller coaster designer, Nick Perrin changes everything.
This is a classic Inspirational Historical Romance. There is a intrigue and mystery regarding Lily's husbands family and the will her late husband left behind. There are social/class restrictions that complicate the plot. There are wonderful subplots throughout and a few twists and turns that surprised me.
My favorite part of the book though were the characters, especially Lily's son Levi. He is a hoot. Having grown up with six brothers who would being home live frogs in their pockets and be outside all day long going on one adventure after another, I so enjoyed reading Levi's stroy. His blossoming relationship with Nick was heart warming especially how it drew Lily and Nick together. I think I smiled through the whole book. This one is going on the keeper shelf for sure.
This is the third book in the Lake Manawa series but can certainly be read as a stand alone. Sielstad's love of history shines though in the details. An absolutely delightful read.
