wind, rain and a little hurricane named sandy...

living in northern virginia we are occasionally battered about by a hurricane...the one that arrived on our doorstep this morning is named sandy...the wind is blowing bending the trees to it's will...the rain beats down at a steady pace...the volume increasing by the hour...we are safe and warm bundled on the sofa reading books...enjoying the electricity while we have it...the hardest part about these storms for our household is how they affect Miss Courtney...barometric pressure is NOT her friend...when a low pressure system comes through bringing rain (or snow in the winter) her seizure activity cranks up...I am not smart enough to understand why...I just know that it does...yesterday as the storm traveled up the coast...she began having seizures...four yesterday...all of them grand-mals...all of them pushing her limits with their strength...7-8 minutes each, challenging her breathing, raising her blood pressure to dangerous levels...we face these seizures everyday...but when a storm of this magnitude comes, there is nothing we can do but stick it out...pray and wait...today she has had one seizure that she handled like the warrior she is...we are not a family who worries about trees landing on cars or homes...we don't worry about losing electricity...it's all about protecting Courtney...calling 911 in the midst of a hurricane can be challenging...our one and only concern is that our daughter is able to breathe through each seizure...that she is able to handle the onslaught of many more of them as the storm passes over in the next 24 hours...so if I can beg a favor once more form you my dear readers/friends...would you be willing to cover my daughter Courtney in prayer over the next 24 hours?...this will be the most challenging part of this storm for her...I thank you in advance...for those of you in the path of this lovely little number be assured of our prayers for you as well...stay safe and dry...let the dance begin...blessings and grace to all...
