mary's book basket ~ "taylor's gift" by todd and tara storch...

"Taylor's Gift" by Todd and Tara Storch recounts the life and death of their beautiful thirteen year old daughter Taylor. Actually it's more than that. Todd and Tara decide to donate Taylor's organs. This story follows not only their incredible journey through their grief but introduces the reader to the individuals who received Taylor's organs. It is an amazing story of God's grace and protection in the midst of a parent's worst nightmare.

I wasn't sure I wanted to read this book. With everything that has happened in our world this past year health wise with Miss Courtney, I wasn't sure that I could get through it. Not only did I get through it but I learned a thing or two. Todd and Tara were open and honest about everything they went through and continue to face. They did not hide one emotion, wether good or bad. It was as if I was sitting in therapy with them. Sometimes it was hard to read as they bared their souls. Other times I actually stopped reading and prayed for them. This event was only two years ago. I can only imagine how difficult it is to lose a piece of your heart and then wake up the next day and try to figure out how to move on.

This book touched my heart on the deepest level. As I read each night, I would go into Courtney's room and sing her one more song or we would snuggle just a little bit longer. The fact that I know time with her is so very precious and short, it made these moments all the more special for me. I have Taylor, Todd and Tara to thank for that.

Organ donation is a question we have had to consider and I will honestly say reading this book has given us much to ponder on the subject. I encourage you to pick up a copy at your local retailer. You will be uplifted and encouraged by the power of Taylor's Gift.
