mary's book basket ~ "that certain summer" by irene hannon...

I am a big fan of Irene Hannon's work. Her romantic suspense novels have long been some of my favorites from the inspirational fiction world. With her newest novel "That Certain Summer" she steps away from the suspense world and enters the contemporary inspirational romance genre.

From the Back Cover:
Two very different sisters . . . an unexpected homecoming . . . one unforgettable summer

Karen and Val are family--yet they're anything but close. Karen has carried the burden of responsibility for her aging mother ever since her sister left town years ago to pursue a career in theater. But Val had other reasons for moving away--as well as a secret to keep--and coming home has never been an option . . . until their mother suffers a stroke.

Reunited in their hometown, Karen and Val must grapple with past mistakes as they care for their ailing mother. When two handsome men enter the picture, the summer takes on a surprising new dimension. As their lives intersect, can each of them learn how to forgive, let go, and move on? And strengthened by the healing power of faith, might they also find the courage to love?

With her trademark compelling characters and heartwarming hope, award-winning author Irene Hannon pens an inspiring true-to-life tale of complex relationships, the search for forgiveness, and the life-changing process of finding love.

I was unsure if I would like this book, since I was so used to Hannon's suspense "voice". Oh how wrong I was. This is a fantastic read filled with theme's of hope, redemption and forgiveness. Her character development was exquisitely done, so real and so raw. Just wonderful to read. I want so badly to talk about the content but that wouldn't be fair to you my friends. It would ruin the read for you, so go get the book and then we can chat!

She weaves some pretty intense subject matter into her plot and handles it with such a delicate prose and masterful storytelling that the reader is drawn into the character's hearts and you find yourself laughing one moment and crying the next.

I was happily surprised with this read and I really hope Ms. Hannon decide's to spend more time in the contemporary inspirational world. I will happily read whatever she write's. I know I am guaranteed to be swept away in romance, a wonderful internal character journey's  and as always a happy ending.

So happy reading friends! I give this book:

4 cupcakes - It was delightfully delish and I would highly recommend it to others.
