on this day I married my best friend...

Twenty-four years ago I married a dashing young Naval Flight Officer in Annapolis, MD. We had a beautiful ceremony and a fabulous party to celebrate our day. I felt like cinderella that day and he has made me feel that way everyday since. We met on a blind date but God saw it all. He had a plan for our life together that was bigger than either of us could have ever imagined.

He has walked beside me for the last twenty-four years never once questioning his choice of me as a bride. Yes, I am that lucky.

He makes me laugh every single day. It is one of the things I love most about him.

He makes me feel whole.

He accepts me as I am, fully and completely. I know, I think he's nuts as well but I am not complaining.

He is my beloved. This man has been faithful every step if the way. He is a man of honor and integrity. He loves his family and his God. Oh, how he serves us. He loves with his hands and heart.

He has always surprised me.

He is a man of prayer who will drop to his knees whenever there is need and believe me there has been great need over the last twenty-four years.

Tonight we will be home to celebrate. Miss Courtney will have an earlier bed time than usual to allow some uninterrupted conversation. There will be his favorite meal of chicken-fried steak, mashed potatoes and green beans, which also happens to be the first meal I ever made for him. No diet on board tonight my friends! There will be a few hits from the '80's cued up on the iPod and dessert will be a lovely blackberry-nectarine fruit crisp with fresh whipped cream followed by a toast with some lovely chilled Prosecco.

SImple, quiet and just what the doctor ordered for this years celebration. Next year for our silver anniversary we will renew our vows and there will be one heck of a party.

So, my sweet husband, I look forward to where God leads us this next year and beyond. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I cannot imagine a day without you by my side. Thank you for choosing me all those years ago.

I am one lucky girl. I love you with all my heart.

Your Mary

  1. Yes, it's been a wonderful 24 years. And, you have really mastered the chicken fried steak. Which is why I love you more today than ever. And your passion for life..and chocolate....and coffee. Ok maybe not the coffee so much, but you do finally embrace my need for bacon.

    Happy Anniversary.
